Jonathan Timms

Head Of Community Development

Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Rugby League Background:
Being raised in Barnsley I had little exposure to either code of rugby until I began work as an apprentice car mechanic in Wakefield where a colleague sparked my interest in Rugby League at the age of 18. Since then I have played for Oulton Raiders and more recently Sharlston Rovers. As well as playing I have done a lot of junior and community coaching as well as working within sports education, where I actively encouraged Rugby League participation and educated future coaches through lecturing on degree level programmes. I continue to play Rugby League and watch as many games as I can.

Job Role:
As head of department I am responsible for the direction and strategy of the organisation.  A large element of my role currently is co-ordinating Sky Try, a truly exciting project helping more children and young people have fun, get active, grow in confidence and enjoy Rugby League.
